History of the Theatre
Dale Kuipers, Rick Beemon & Welden Blum
The original Theatre Building was built in 1885 by Charles Caskey. Mr. Caskey built numerous mansions here on Mackinac Island and most importantly he built the Grand Hotel. The first use of the building was a Roller Rink. In 1895 it was a dance hall. In 1907 it was a family theatre with "moving pictures". In 1923 it became a Motion Picture theatre
and was called the Orpheum Theatre.
From 1974 to the
present it has been
THE HAUNTED THEATRE.
Dale Kuipers, the monster maker
Welden and Susan Blum
Hundreds of years ago this area was part of an Indian burial ground, which probably explains why the theatre is so haunted. There is never ending wailing at night and the bats go berserk
outside on our porch
every single night.
THE HAUNTED THEATRE came into existence in 1974. Thanks to the brilliant
thinking and
creative energy of
Mr. Joseph Feuquay
and Mr. Welden Blum.
The principal
monster maker was
the world famous Mr.
Dale Kuipers, whose
fantastic artwork
still inhabits THE
THEATRE. Dale was
able to bring to
life some
interesting Island
Indian Legends. Rick
Beeman and Sheldon
Bennett were also an
important part of
the engineering and
creative process.
Mr. Blum is still
the owner of the
longest running six
month season Haunted
House in the world.
It is a family run
business with three
generations of
family employees.
Come join us for some good old-fashioned screaming and laughing. We are not like
a Halloween Haunted
House. We are more
sophisticated and
creative. We
customize the
scariness to fit
your age group. We
can terrorize, but
we can also, gently
hold your hand while
we walk you through.
You decide, but do
remember that first
and foremost we are
a Haunted House. We
want our customers
to have a fun,
laughing, screaming
experience.
Our price is
$7.00 for everyone.
We do special rates
for large school
groups. We
discourage age 6 and
under to enter. Pets
are welcome. Half
price for senior
citizens. Military
are totally free. We
do special
pre-arranged group
time
situations......like
midnights. We aim to
please. We are
usually open from
11am to 8pm.
